Nowadays, one of the staples of numerous healthy diets is avocado. Probably, there isn’t anyone who doesn’t enjoy a tasty bowl of guacamole, right? But, what is so special about this fruit? Everything! In fact, avocados offer numerous health benefits, besides being tasty and used in the preparation of countless recipes.

 They’re rich in vitamin B5, B6, C, K, E, potassium, etc. Also, they are a great source of fiber and they have a similar fatty acid as the one present in olive oil. If you’re a lover of avocados, you should know that you don’t have to purchase them at the nearest supermarket, but you can grow them at home. It’s easy and inexpensive procedure. Let’s take a look at the steps:
  • Sprout avocado seed

Take an avocado seed and stick 4 toothpicks in it. Place them halfway down from the top at an equal distance. Next, place the avocado seed in a cup of water with its dimpled end soaking in one inch of water. Allow the seed to soak for two to six weeks in a warm place, away from direct exposure to sunlight. When the stem is 6 inches long, cut it to 3 inches and allow the roots to thicken and the leaves to grow.

  • Planting

Fill a 10-inch diameter pot with quality soil. Next, plant the seed in a small hole made in the center of the soil. Its roots need to be half in the soil and half of it exposed. You need to keep the soil moist, but make sure not to over-water it. If the leaves become yellowish or if they start to droop, leave the seeds to dry out, and then continue to water them with less water.

If the leaves become brown or dry off, you should water the plant more. In this case, put the pot in the sink and let water run through it mildly for couple of seconds.

  • Enjoy your avocados

At this phase, you’re at the last phase. Hence, continue watering it regularly and the first fruits will begin forming soon.
